Winnipeg Southwest Youth Softball Association
2015 “B” EVALUATIONS
Once again WSWYSA is conducting a league wide tryout for “B” level players.
The objective is to give as many girls a chance to play at the B level as possible.
While priority is given to place successful B players on teams in their home
areas, there is the possibility of playing on another team in another area
in order to fill rosters.

Tryout Evaluation - PURPOSE
As a league, the WSWYSA recognizes that there is a demand and need to develop the “B” level play for fast pitch softball within our boundaries. The conveners/executive further recognize that there are players of varying skill levels and competitiveness, and that our league is committed to offer a play level that is both recreational and also one that is more competitive. At the same time, not all community club registration numbers allow for team creation for both a “C” and “B” level of play, nor do all players desire to play at a more competitive level. To that end, the league has decided to create a voluntary process whereby all interested players across the league can participate in tryout/player evaluation and have a potential opportunity to play “B” ball. Players will be pooled from all participating community clubs and teams will be formed based on available coaching resources and player interest.
This policy is to ensure consistent and fair skill assessment and subsequent application of tryout results to the formation of ‘B’ level softball teams in the WSWYSA, aimed at fielding competitive minor softball teams at the community club level, while supporting the values of community based friendships, loyalties, and rivalries.

2015 Spring Basketball - ONLINE REGISTRATION ONLY
General League Information
The WMBA is a not-for-profit community club based basketball league located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Our Spring league runs Mid April - June and offers leagues for ages 8-18.
Riverview Community Centre (RVCC) basketball teams will be playing in the Community Club Basketball league (Club Basketball) being offered by the WMBA. The WMBA also offers a Rising Stars League. Rising Stars athletes may not play on a WMBA Community Club team during the same season. Players are only allowed to play on one WMBA team at a time.
For more information on the WMBA, visit www.wmba.ca.
Community Club Basketball Information
The spring league is open to boys and girls ages 8 - 18.
The maximum number of players per team, under WMBA rules, is 12.
Players are strongly encouraged to register as soon as possible, in order to ensure a spot on a team .
Once registration is over, teams will be formed, coaches confirmed, and practice times coordinated with each coach. Players will be contacted by the coach, who will inform them of practice times and location.
We are hoping to get enough 8 & 9 year old girls registered to form a Riverview team – we have a coach and a gym, now we need girls!
If there is enough interest, there is also gym space available for 3 on 3 adult basketball. Apparently, adult basketball has happened in our neighbourhood in the past and there is gym space now to revive it. The cost will be determined at a later date.
Game Days & Age Divisions
Ages 8 to 12 play on Saturdays, ages 13 to 18 on Sundays. Games are played between 9 am and 6 pm. Games are one hour in length.
Other Program Information
The spring league will run from April to June. Teams will practice once per week, on a weeknight. Teams could be based out of Riverview, Earl Grey, Valour, Corydon or a team in St. Vital.
Practice times will not be available until the coaches and gym times have been assigned. Practice times range from Monday to Thursday, 6:00 - 10:00 pm.
Coaches and volunteers are always needed to help with the program. Each team requires a volunteer coach, and if possible an assistant coach and manager, before the team will be registered with the WMBA. Any parent willing to volunteer should do so when registering their child in the program.
Participants need to wear runners with non-marking soles and shorts with no pockets or belt loops. One jersey will be supplied by RVCC for the duration of the season. This jersey needs to be returned to the coach at the windup after the last game of the season. There is a fee for non-returned jerseys (for example, $40 for RVCC teams, $50 for Norberry CC teams).
Fee: Cost of registering a team with the WMBA is $1,000 per team for ages 8 to 18. The RVCC basketball fee assumes 8 players per team

Refunds will be provided if a player chooses to withdraw from the program prior to the first game of the season. All refunds are subject to a $25 administration fee, which is deducted from the registration fee amount. To obtain a refund, email notification must be given to the Riverview basketball convener at least 48 hours to the start of the first game of the season. There are no refunds after the first game of the season!
In the event that you miss on-line registration, you must contact the RVCC office who will put you in touch with the convenor. At that time, the convenor will determine if there is room on a team for your child. If your child is accepted, you will be requested to complete a registration form and pay the registration fee. In addition, there will be a $50 late registration fee required prior to your child being placed on a team.
