Cross Country Skiing

JackRabbit Skiing 2014/15

The 2013 – 2014 JackRabbits Skiing Program begins on Sunday, November 23, 2014 and runs to Sunday March 15, 2015. This is the eleventh year Riverview Community Centre is offering JackRabbits Skiing and we are looking forward to three and a half months of cross-country skiing fun.

Registration is now open at… https://www.registrationlogic.com/secure/Register.aspx?E=1316

Sessions are held from 1:30 - 3:00. We ski at the community club grounds or on the groomed trails on the Churchill Parkway. The program is designed for skiers from ages 4 to 12 and of all skill levels.

The goal of the program is for everyone to enjoy themselves and have fun while learning basic skiing skills. We start every session with a fun warm-up and finish with hot chocolate at the community centre or on the ski trail. Parents are encouraged to ski with their kids or off on their own while the activities and games are underway. We are always in need of volunteers – hot chocolate making, trail grooming, gear maintenance, coaching, and at bingo fundraisers.

The cost of the program is $80 for one child (prorated for additional children in a family: $60 for second child, $40 for third child). Registration costs cover group membership in the Cross Country Ski Association of Manitoba, insurance, club equipment and supplies, and training costs.

Parents are responsible for finding equipment for their children. However, a limited amount of equipment is available for rent from the Riverview Community Club. A deposit is required, and renters must be active participants in the Jackrabbit program. Rental fees are $60.00 (for boots, poles and skis).

Parents are encouraged to ski with their children and take part in the Jackrabbits sessions. Your participation will help makes the skiing experience a positive, shared experience. If you’re interested in coaching, please contact the convener. We also need volunteers to assist with coaching (training provided), rental gear preparation and distribution, post-session hot chocolate making and trail grooming (training provided). Volunteers are an invaluable part of the success this program has experienced over the last decade. Please consider helping in any way you can.

Hockey & Skiing

Schedules for pleasure skating will be posted in the Hall.

Jackrabbit Hockey

Cost is 60.00 for the season.
Begins when the ice at RVCC is ready for use and practices are Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings.
The goal is to have fun while learning basic hockey skills in a casual environment.  It helps if the players have basic skating skills, but all are welcome to join.  It is recommended that skating lessons be taken in the fall to increase confidence on the ice for the Jackrabbit season.  Skating skills and basic passing and puck handling are practiced and there is a short game to end the session.  Parents are welcome and encouraged to come out on the ice to help out.

A helmet and cage are mandatory.  It is strongly recommended that shin pads, elbow pads and hockey gloves are worn.  Most players also wear hockey pants, but this is not required.

Youth Hockey is registered and delivered through the

Fort Garry North Hockey Association
