Jane's Walk - Riverview
May 1, 12:30 P.M.
Join Jino Distasio, life-long Rouger and Director of the
Institute of Urban Studies, as he leads a walk through
the heart of Fort Rouge. During the walk you trace the
storied history of Riverview that includes bears,
gambling, gold, streetcars, roller coasters and even the
1950 flood! Together, we'll see how an eclectic history
shaped this diverse and desirable neighbourhood that
unfolds along Osborne Street. Along the way we'll also
meet local residents and shop owners and learn about the
architecture and characters of this unique part of Fort
Rouge. Meet at the Banana Boat at 12:30. The tour is
1.5 hours. |

RVCC FUND DRIVE ON NOW |

Calling all Riverview Residents!
Over the next few weeks, a Riverview neighbour will be
knocking on your door, asking for a donation to support
Riverview Community Centre. Although the City pays a
large portion of the operating expenses, about 25% is
dependant on donations and fees. Programs at the club
are not covered and the club depends on the generosity
of neighbours and volunteers to continue programs at
RVCC.
In the past year, with the help of Jenny Gerbasi, we
have been able to construct a new playground. The
parking lot has been paved. And soon, we'll have new
bathrooms and accessible doors.
If you have enjoyed the rinks, the cross country ski
trails, the Reflector, the Spring Carnival, day camps,
Climate Change programs, sports programs or art, please
remember that these are all supported by your
donations. And for those of you who haven't used the
club much, please remember that an active community club
adds to a safe and healthy community.
Please give what you can - any amount is appreciated.

Attention Dog Owners!!!
There are many of us in this Community - we see each
other walking round the Neighborhood - many of us know
the names of all the dogs we meet (but not necessarily
the names of the owners!!).
We're so fortunate to have all sorts of resources "at
our doorstep" - activities for children, youth and
adults all offered through our vibrant Community Club.
As dog owners we recognize that our pets need to play
and socialize but that is sometimes difficult to manage.
In considering this issue I have spoken with the
Community Club and asked for the temporary use of the
empty Hockey rink where dogs (and their owners) could
attend a scheduled "play time".
Owners would have to be responsible for their own dog,
including clean up of poop, aggressive play, etc. There
will be no "Dog Whisperer" available to intervene!! The
Community Club would have no responsibility for this
event - other than providing the space.
We would like to start by trying one night - next
Wednesday May 5th from 6.30-8.30 pm to gauge Community
interest and identify problems or concerns.
It could be a lot of fun (for everyone) - let's try it
and see.
Mary (Barton)
and "Crew" - you know who you are!!! |
