OVER
$12,000
RAISED FOR OUR COMMUNITY CLUB -
THANK YOU! A hearty THANKS NEIGHBOUR to the 49 enthusiastic volunteers who knocked on doors throughout Riverview to raise more than $12,000 in this year’s RVCC Spring Canvass. Thanks also to our four wonderful Zone Captains: Janelle Cancade White, Caitlin Kowall, Caroline Spellman and Danielle Vatnsdalfor helping us all keep on track. A ROUND OF APPLAUSE for Lux Solé who provided two gift certificates as an incentive and “thank you” for our canvassers. The lucky winners were Stan Stubbs and Lori Keith. And a solid PAT ON THE BACK to all of you who donated to this year’s campaign. Please know how much your generosity is valued and appreciated, and how much each and every gift is needed to support and enhance programs and facilities available at our community club. Here are just 49 of the thousands of reasons that Riverview is such a great place to live: Bettina Allen Karen Boyd Lauchie Boyd Ruth Cameron Janelle Cancade White Doug Carlson Sue Cerasani Lynn Crawford Lorraine Decock Kathy Desbiolles Ryan Dixon Brent Fedirchuk Pat Fedirchuk Pamela Fletcher Trina Gardner Cathy Gervais Phyllis Harding Randi Hunter Lori Keith Ralph Kowatsch Michelle Kreutzer Cathy Land Pat Lane Matthew Lawrence Pam Lawrence Ian Ledger Janet Ledger Diane Lee Sousa Joe Sousa Bill Leskiw Mary Macdonald Tracy Marshall Trudy Mattey Laura McMaster Quinn Menec Wendy Morris Elli Nakamichi Jennifer Partridge Mimi Raglan Laura Roberts Juliane Schaible Tara Sepke Charlene Smallwood Beth Smyth Stan Stubbs John Van Walleghem Danielle Vatnsdal Terry Vatrt Terry Welsh PS – If (by chance) we missed you this year, and you would still like to make a donation to the Riverview Community Club, please don’t hesitate to contact Pat Fedirchuk 452-3250 TheFeds@mts.net or Lorraine Decock 453-9225 ldecock@mts.net Breakfast with Santa – December 15 Come and join other families from Riverview and have breakfast with Santa! Pancake breakfast is free but a donation of coins is welcome. Date: December 15 Time: 11:00 to 2:00 Place: Riverview Community Club, 90 Ashland See you on December 15! Sponsored by Riverview Community Club Soccer Convenor Needed It is with regret that I resign from the position of Riverview Soccer Conveynor for the U9 - 18 boys and girls. It has been great over the last few years watching soccer grown in Riverview and see our children playing. Please be aware that the position for the U9 - 18 boys and girls soccer conveynor at Riverview is vacant and we require someone to volunteer for this role. If you are interested in this please contact Tom McMahon at reflector@riverviewcc.ca or 474-1598. Busy times for the convenor are March and Sept. In March we usually get about 150 kids registering for outdoor soccer and we host 8 teams. In September we get 50 - 60 kids registering for indoor soccer and host between 2 - 3 teams. The coordinator needs to manage all aspects of registrations and attend a meeting between community centre where all the teams are made. They also have to hand out the equipment, do the invoices an! d spread sheets for the Treasurer. There is usually a meeting once a month to every two months with all the community club convenors to touch base. If we don't have a convenor it would be difficult to run the soccer program. Best Wishes Arlene MacLennan Jackrabbits Coach Needed Riverview has a history of providing great first hockey experiences for boys and girls between 4 and 7 years and 8 and 10 years. But this is done by volunteers, typically parents of the participating children. It is usually one or two nights a week, only on the outdoor ice when it is available. Last year’s coach, Trevor Gardner, is stepping down, and without one or more new volunteers, there will not be any jackrabbits hockey this year. To volunteer, please contact Tom McMahon at reflector@riverviewcc.ca or 474-1598. Community Centre Supervisors needed RVCC needs new Supervisors at the Club. The pay is $8/hour and the work is evenings and weekends. If you know anyone who might be interested, please have them email Bev Suek, Vice-President, at beverlysuek@shaw.ca or drop off a resume at 141 Balfour Ave. Volunteers The Community club needs volunteers to run drop in activities, supervise the Teen Dance and for helping or organizing with Breakfast with Santa. Come help out at the Club - we want you! Please email or telephone Bev suek at 453-4350 or beverlysuek@shaw.ca. Drop In Activities at the Club The Club now has a series of drop in activities for children, young adults and adults. Check the schedule on line or at the Club for this month's activities. Come join us for floor hockey, jewellery making, dodge ball, arts and crafts, knitting and many new activities! Or, drop in when the hall isn't in use and ask for badminton net and rackets, mini-basketball and hoop, board games, air hockey, ping pong and foosball. Watch for the ads for pre-teen, teen and family dances! And in the winter, there's a skate rental with skates in many sizes. All activities are free! Fun for the whole family! Did you know….? Riverview Community Club is available for rental. The main hall holds 262 people and ca be rented as the whole room or half of the room with a divider. Plus there’s a meeting room for small groups. It could be the place for your next birthday party, social, retirement party or large meeting. All rentals have use of the kitchen as well. Projector available at additional cost. For more information or bookings, please call Dayna at 475-4459 Good Neighbour Group – special meeting and you are invited! Special meeting open to everyone: Sunday Oct 21 @ 11am at RVCC The Good Neighbour Group has a long held reputation in Riverview of being a community minded group of women with the mandate of fundraising for the Riverview Community Centre. Some of the events that the GNG has organized have been the Winter and Spring Carnivals, Annual Pie Making and Sale, trade shows and craft sales, Casino Night, Parade of Homes and family oriented parties. In addition to the much-needed fundraising events, the GNG has hosted many community-building events throughout the years. Two of the most important events are the annual Christmas party and Spring BBQ that are held for the folks at the Garden Manor Care Home on Osborne. Many families have also been the recipients of Christmas Cheer Board Baskets put together by the group. As the decades have passed, the look and feel of the Good Neighbour Group has transformed and developed. What started as a means for “work at home” moms to connect and create a community for themselves and their families has evolved into a group that values social responsibility through raising funds for an active community centre and through this, build lasting relationships. This meaningful group has found itself struggling with dwindling membership and the general “burn-out” of existing active members. Now is the time to step up to the plate and commit to making the Good Neighbour Group strong and vital again. Please come out and join us in making the decision of how or if the Good Neighbour Group will continue. We are so fortunate to live in an area such as Riverview that has an active, friendly and welcoming community. Sincerely, The Riverview Good Neighbour Group Members Wanted: Donations for Riverview Community Club Coffee table Books for children - short picture books, comics, magazines Wooden train set for Parents and Tots Office Chair with arms Electronic game like X Box Flip chart Used skates for skate exchange Shelving unit for skate exchange Thinking of advertising in the Reflector? This year alone the program presented a record-breaking $3.4 million to charity. We are now seeking more charities to support in Manitoba. The focus of Canada Safeway’s 2008 We Care program is on children and families living with physical and developmental disabilities. Our goal is to raise money and awareness, helping those living with disabilities live life to their full potential. This November the employees of each store will select their partner cause for next year's campaign, scheduled to run January to April, 2008. Consistent features of selected causes will be a large volunteer base to support three national fundraising days, clear illustration of how the dollars will be used, and demonstration as to how the cause is relevant to the community the store serves. We are hopeful that you might be able to share this fundraising opportunity with those in your community that may fit with the above criteria. More information and applications are also available at your local Safeway or by visiting www.safeway.ca. Applications can be dropped off at any Safeway prior to the deadline of November 3, 2007. Thank you for your continued support of Canada Safeway and our mutual desire to make this community a better place. For more information, don't hesitate to call us at (204) 487-5754.
