URGENT: Basketball Convenor Needed

Riverview CC is in need of a volunteer to administer the Basketball program (organized by the WMBA, Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association).  If your child enjoys playing basketball and you want to continue to have your child register and/or play out of Riverview..... PLEASE consider stepping forward to fill this important position.

Don't know the difference between a "double dribble" violation and a "travelling" violation?  No worries.  A detailed knowledge of basketball is NOT required.  Your task will be to register children into the program and collect registration fees.  After meeting with other convenors to set up the teams, and distributing uniforms and basketballs; your job is largely done until the season is over.  Although the duties are not particularly onerous, this position can also be shared between 2 people.

The current convenor is stepping down  BUT he will act as your personal Basketball Convenor Mentor (i.e., co-convenor) in the upcoming Spring Basketball season.  This will ensure a smooth and easy transition into the position.  If you have any questions please contact Hugo.  He will be happy to answer any and all questions that you may have regarding this position.

Please contact:
Bev Suek (President) or
Hugo Bergen (hugobergen@gmail.com)

We will be hosting over 20 co-ed hockey teams for children ages 7 through 11 from across

  • Canteen with hot food will be open
  • Pancake breakfasts on Sundays
  • Silent auctions
  • 50/50 draws
  • Draw for a Wii console
  • Great hockey and lots of fun!

The tournament is also looking for volunteers to work as timekeepers - teens and adults welcome.  Anyone interested can call Alison Waugh at 255-0591.

Child Care Needed

We are looking for someone special to care for our amazing 2 ½ year old daughter in our Riverview home 3 or 4 days per week.  Expected hours are between 8:00 - 6:00 pm, (30 to 40 per week).  We are looking for someone who is excited to explore the world with a busy toddler - must be loving, responsible, caring, patient and gentle.  A suitable car and clean drivers licence is needed for trips to activities such as music lessons and gymnastics.   Applicants must be comfortable with outdoor activities in all seasons.  For information on how to apply, please contact Patti Backman at patti@phoenixrecycling.ca, home: 453-6507, work: 222-5096

Volleyball, Anyone?

In 2008, the Winnipeg Minor Volleyball association decided that there would no longer be a program run out of Community Centres.  Should we bring it back?  The Community Centre Mini Volleyball Program offered a valuable alternative sport activity at a low cost to hundreds of our community youth.  Please reply with your comments to elaine@gcwcc.mb.ca or fax 475-5812.
