Riverview CC participates in the Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association (WMBA)

The WMBA is a not-for-profit community club based basketball league, open to boys and girls ages 6-19. The winter league runs from mid-October through to the end of March. A spring league is also offered in April and runs through to the end of June. Teams are separated into age groups and play co-ed for ages 9 and under. Games are played on weekends at school gyms throughout Winnipeg. If you are interested in finding out more about this league contact the WMBA at www.wmba.ca or email Riverview's basketball convener Cathy Gervais, cagervais@shaw.ca.

Riverview Community Centre basketball teams will be playing in the Community Club Basketball League (Club Basketball) being offered by the Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association (MBA).  The WMBA is a not-for-profit community club based basketball league located in Winnipeg.  The WMBA website (www.wmba.ca) has information about the season and the program.

The Fall/Winter League is open to boys & girls ages 4-18.
The games will be played on the following days between 9 am to 6 pm:
Saturday for ages 4 to 11 – games will be played at various community centres and schools in Winnipeg
Sunday Games (ages 12 to 18) – again, games will be played at various locations, including the University of Winnipeg Duckworth Centre
Note:  This year the co-ed league has been expanded to include 4 year olds. Thus this age group will be ages 4 – 7. Ages 8 and 9 will be playing a 3 on 3 format on half of the basketball court.

PROGRAM INFORMATION

  • The fall/winter league will run from mid-October to early March. Playoffs will begin then, until March Break, for the older kids.
  • Teams will practice once per week on weeknights at an area school.  The practice times will not be available until the coaches and gym times have been assigned.  Practice times range from Monday to Thursday, 6 - 9 pm.
  • Games are one hour in length. At each game, there must be an adult of each sex on the bench, i.e. male coach = female parent on the bench.
  • Coaches and volunteers are always needed to help with the program.  Each team must have a volunteer coach, assistant coach, and manager before the team will be registered with the WMBA.  Any parent willing to volunteer should do so when registering your child in the program.
  • Participants need to wear runners with non-marking soles and shorts with no pockets or belt loops.  One jersey will be supplied by RVCC for the duration of the season.  This jersey needs to be returned to the coach at the last game of the season, or at the windup.  There is a $30.00 fee for non-returned jerseys.

BASKETBALL FEES – FALL/WINTER 2012/2013
Registration fee for ages 4 – 7:  $110.00 WMBA team fee of $850 divided by 8 players
Registration Fee Per Player (Ages 8 to 18): $200 WMBA team fee of $1600 divided by 8 players
Registration will again be conducted thru the online registration system of IT Sportsnet. I know there were quite a few growing pains with this system in spring registration, but hopefully everything will go smoother this fall. However, payment will need to be made in full before the season starts.
